    Pluggable Backup Services for BRC-140 Share Vaults

    If you lose your wallet's key, recovery usually depends on either writing down a mnemonic yourself or trusting one company to hold the whole thing, which is a single point of failure. There was no shared way for a wallet to spread pieces of a recovery secret across several independent backup providers so that no single provider, or even a couple of colluding ones, could reconstruct your key alone. This makes it possible to enroll with multiple backup services interchangeably and only get your key back once you have gathered enough pieces from enough of them.

    Fungible tokens on Bitcoin (like a project's in-app coin) can be represented on-chain, but wallets had no shared agreement on where to keep them, how to list balances, or what information to hand off when sending them to someone else. Without that agreement, one wallet's token holdings look like junk to another wallet, balances can't be reliably summed, and transfers can silently drop the details a receiver needs to recognize what they were sent. This fixes that so any wallet can hold, list, and pass along these tokens in a way other wallets understand.

    Apps that manage digital collectables inside a wallet need to show a user's items and occasionally spend one of them, but a wallet basket only offers all-or-nothing access: either an app sees everything in a person's collection or nothing at all. That is either too invasive for an app that only cares about one collection, or too weak to let an app safely ask to move a single specific item without also getting blanket spending rights over the whole stash.
